Our PI, Lisa Richey, has published a new article on the LSE Blog. She examines how decades of charity narratives like Band Aid’s “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” have perpetuated disempowering stereotypes of Africans as passive recipients of aid.
Lisa Richey argues for a radical shift: recognizing Ethiopians and Africans as active agents in the global compassion economy, whose emotional labor deserves fair compensation.
